While Surenomics focuses on cybersecurity, people are always at the heart of our service. Recent news provides an important reminder that people are a huge part of risk in organizations. In cybersecurity, an essential component of cyber audits and compliant organizations involves regular, consistent training of people, ownership and engagement of leadership and leveraging technology and training organization wide. Part of this process is validation and verification of credentials – upon hire and on an ongoing basis.

A major scam involving the sale of fake nursing diplomas has been uncovered in Florida. The scheme involved individuals representing three schools selling fraudulent nursing diplomas to individuals seeking to work as nurses in the state. The fake diplomas were sold for thousands of dollars and provided to individuals who had not completed the necessary education or training to become a nurse.

The scam was discovered by the Palm Beach County State Attorney’s Office and has resulted in several arrests. The individuals involved in the scam are facing charges of organized fraud and grand theft.

This scam highlights the importance of verifying the credentials of individuals claiming to be nurses. It also serves as a reminder of the need for strict regulations and oversight in the healthcare industry to ensure the safety of patients.
Individuals who have purchased fake nursing diplomas from this scam may face consequences, including the loss of their job and criminal charges. It is recommended that those who suspect they may have purchased a fake diploma contact the appropriate authorities to verify their credentials.

The Florida nursing diploma scam serves as a wake-up call for the need to protect the integrity in every industry and to ensure that only qualified individuals are interacting with your customers. Remembering that people are the heart of the organization, providing the tools to do their jobs is only one part of the equation. Like the famous proverb, “If you give a man a fish, you feed him for a day. If you teach a man to fish, you feed him for a lifetime.”  Don’t be fooled into thinking if you “tool up” your organization that you will be cyber safe. Verification and training are the most important tools in your cyber toolbox. Contact our team to discuss options.
